What is ADHD?

Attention- Deficit/ Hyperactivity Disorder is a Neurodevelopmental Disorder which begins to manifest before the age of 12. Some of the symptoms include:

  • Inattention: doesn’t pay attention to details, makes carless mistakes; struggles sustaining attention in tasks; often does not seem to listen ; has difficulties following instructions; difficulties organising tasks ; avoids engaging in tasks requiring sustained mental effort; often loses things; is easily distracted and forgetful
  • Hyperactivity and impulsivity: often fidgets, leaves seat when expected to remain seated, runs or climbs in situations where it is inappropriate, often is unable to play or engage in leisure activities quietly, unable to be still for extended time, often talks excessively, answers before being asked, struggles waiting for their turn, often interrupts others.

Eating Disorders and ED Plan

  • Eating disorders are far more common than most people realise.
Approximately one million Australians are living with an eating disorder in any given year; that is, 4% of the population. Binge eating disorder is the most common disorder.  Of people with an eating disorder, 3% have anorexia nervosa, 12% bulimia nervosa, 47% binge eating disorder (BED) and 38% other eating disorders. (source:  https://nedc.com.au/eating-disorders/eating-disorders-explained/the-facts/eating-disorders-in-australia/)
  • From my experience working with Bariatric patients, most of overweight or morbidly obese people display disordered eating behaviours and struggle with undiagnosed binge eating disorder.
